Scanning Electron Microscopy Laboratory (LMEV): Since its inception, the LMEV is an interdisciplinary, multi-user laboratory aimed at advancing scientific and technological research at the Center for Agrarian and Engineering Sciences (CCAE) and the Center for Exact, Natural and Health Sciences (CCENS), as well as at partner institutions. The laboratory supports both qualitative and quantitative research by providing access to scanning electron microscopy resources.

The LMEV is equipped with the following instruments: a Jeol JSM-IT200A scanning electron microscope with an EDS/EDX Jeol JED2300 detector; a Dell desktop with dual monitors; a Tousimis Autosamdri-815 critical point dryer with a CO₂ cylinder and necessary connections; and a Denton Vacuum Desk V vacuum metalizer with an argon cylinder and connections.

These instruments are jointly managed by CCAE and CCENS, reflecting the laboratory’s significance for research across 17 undergraduate and 9 postgraduate programs at UFES’s South Campus. The LMEV serves not only the campus but also the broader southern region of Espírito Santo and northern Rio de Janeiro, being the only scanning electron microscopy laboratory in southern Espírito Santo.

Additionally, the lab supports external researchers from UFES and IFES, alleviating demand from laboratories in Vitória (ES). It is noteworthy that only three electron microscopy laboratories in the entire state are accessible to external researchers.

Given the high operational costs of scanning electron microscopy—including sample preparation, reagents for lyophilization, metalization materials, analysis, and maintenance of filaments—this project ensures the LMEV’s continued operation. Funding will support the acquisition of auxiliary equipment for sample preparation, sample holders, laboratory furniture, and devices for image processing and transfer.

With this implementation, the laboratory’s infrastructure will be modernized, expanding its service capacity and providing greater comfort, efficiency, and reliability to its users.
